Attention Smucker Farms customers with a sweet tooth: thanks to DC’s own goûter we now offer vanilla macaroons, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cake bites and chocolate barks. Not only will your cravings be satisfied, but your conscience can be at ease knowing that the ingredients in these sweets are organic and were produced using ethical and sustainable practices. Your body will thank you too because these “superfood” snacks are vegan. That’s right – gluten free, dairy free, raw vegan treats. And they are delicious.
After eating your typical baked-good you will most likely feel slightly guilty because of all the sugar and fat it contains. However, goûter has replaced guilt-inducing ingredients with nutritious vegan alternatives that naturally give your body the energy it needs.
The seed for this young business was planted when goûter’s founders Steve and Violaine, partners in business and life, adopted the vegan lifestyle and were disappointed with their store-bought options for satisfying sweet treats that aligned with their new diet. Instead of giving up, the couple took on the challenge and began experimenting with various ingredients to create their own raw vegan desserts. The recipes became staples at home and were often shared with family and friends. After being urged by many of these early taste testers to turn their vegan culinary efforts into a business, Steve and Violaine officially founded goûter.
Creating this brand was a natural extension of the couple’s personal beliefs. Early on in their adoption of veganism, Steve and Violaine received questions about their new lifestyle choice from curious friends and family. The future business owners found that they enjoyed educating people about an alternative way of eating and living as well as providing others with healthy food options through their homemade vegan snacks. goûter now allows Steve and Violaine to offer these nutritious options to a larger audience.
The timing could not have been more perfect to begin this new business endeavor. In the beginning of the company’s short history, Steve was working at a local juice bar that agreed to carry goûter’s snacks, which customers soon devoured. Demand increased week after week and so did customer suggestions, which Steve and Violaine have used as inspiration for new recipes for the brand. Some of these expanded offerings can now be found at Smucker Farms.
Stop by our store and support this hyper-local business as they spread their message of healthy eating and living. And as Steve and Violaine say, “goûter your day.”
